Product Families

Details

Most performance parts don't come in one version. The same intake comes in three finishes. The same bracket fits four chassis. The same kit comes with or without the hardware. If every one of those is its own separate part with its own separate listing, your catalog gets messy fast, and your online store gets even messier.

Product Families fix that. Group related parts under one parent product, with each variation as its own child part, and manage them as the single product they really are.

What a product family is

A product family is a parent product that ties together every version of a part. Each child is a real part in MSA, with its own part number, pricing, and inventory. The parent is what holds them together, so you and your customers see one product with options instead of a list of lookalike parts.

Built to work with Assemblies

Product Families are a natural supplement to Assemblies. If you build kits or manufactured parts that come in several configurations, each configuration can be an assembly, with its own bill of materials, sitting as a child in the family. You get the build detail of an assembly and the clean presentation of one product.

Or use them on their own

Assemblies aren't required. The children in a family can be regular parts, so even if you don't manufacture anything, you can use Product Families to organize the sizes, finishes, and fitments of the parts you resell.

Where it really pays off: e-commerce

This is where Product Families earn their keep. When you push a family up to your online store through the Shopify integration, it lands as one product with variants instead of a pile of separate listings. Your customer picks the option they want on a single product page, and the order comes back to MSA tied to the exact child part they bought.

That keeps your store clean, keeps your inventory accurate down to the specific version, and means you're only building the product once, in MSA.

Why it's built this way

A part with five variations is still one product to your customer. Treating it as five unrelated parts is what creates duplicate listings, confused buyers, and inventory that never quite matches. Product Families let your catalog reflect the way you actually sell.
